Expedition Cards

Our Expedition Cards tell the story of the Kalmar Nyckel''s first voyage in 1638 that founded the colony of New Sweden in Delaware.  Forty (40) cards divided into color-coded sets provide students with details about the Expedition's Leaders (red), the Locations (green) encountered by the crew and soldier-settlers during the first voyage across the Atlantic from Sweden to Delaware, and essential elements of the Ship (blue) itself.  The cards include special features that emphasize "chronology," "geography," and "life in the 17th century."  The cards support our Thinking Chronologically unit for 4th grade History, but they work equally well as the basis for classroom lessons and activities for all grades 4th through 8th.
