DOE Curriculum Units

The Kalmar Nyckel Foundation partners with the Delaware Department of Education (DOE) to develop, support, and implement curriculum units and materials for teachers and students throughout the state.  Our curriculum units and classroom materials are built in conjunction with the DOE, the Social Studies Coalition of Delaware (SSCD), and classroom teachers from districts around the state.

We have three Social Studies Units serving the Delaware Recommended Curriculum (DRC) — one 4th Grade History, one 5th Grade Economics, and one 5th Grade Geography.  New units are under development.

DOE Social Studies Units for DRC

Model Curriculum Units include:

• Geography Unit for 5th grade, Thinking Geographically: Wilmington’s Riverfront Over Time, Standard 3: Site and Situation — Places Change Over Time

• History Unit for 4th grade, Thinking Chronologically, Standard 1 (a): Chronology, and 2 (b): Cause and Effect

The Kalmar Nyckel Foundation has developed a wide variety of classroom materials that support our curriculum units.  These are freely available to teachers and students.  They include:
